Louvre Columns

As promised, pictures of columns at the Louvre.

A close-up of the bee detail:

The next two photos aren't of columns, but these ceiling arches have similar details and are in much better condition since they are sheltered from the weather.

A detail of the above column, twining snakes:

Hope these provide plenty of quilt design inspiration.

I'm always amazed by your photos. What type of camera do you use? They are outstanding!

Your photos are always amazing--such detail! When my son went to Paris with a high school tour, he came home with lots of standard pictures, but very little detail. Every time you post about Paris, I want to grab him and ask, "Didn't you see anything like this?"

The pictures are so beautiful. Wish I could have a rubbing. :) I've been thinking about columns lately, thanks for the push.

Wow. Do you think those are hand carved?

Can you imagine anyone in the US putting this kind of detail in/on the facade of a building anymore? I can't. Even if they *could* afford it.

Beautiful. As much as I appreciate and enjoy modern design, you can't deny that buildings that are heavily decorated like this one are absolutely inspiring as well.
